Sunflower Cafe - Selkirk
About This Spot
Sunflower Cafe is the kind of unhurried, familiar spot that welcomes you the moment you step inside. Nestled just a short stroll from Selkirk Provincial Park, it carries the easygoing charm of small-town life with a warmth that feels like a shared secret among locals. Here, mornings linger over comforting aromas of fresh coffee and sizzling breakfasts, while afternoons draw in familiar faces craving a friendly chat or a quiet moment.
The space has a cozy, homey rhythm—where conversations blend with the gentle clinking of cutlery and the soft hum of attentive staff moving about. This isn’t a place racing from one order to the next; it’s a welcoming pause where details matter, from the tidy tables to the sincere smiles that greet every visitor. The atmosphere invites you to slow down, settle in, and savor the simple joy of a meal made with care.
Food at Sunflower Cafe fits naturally into this setting. The menu reflects a love for hearty, honest comfort fare—meals that bring a sense of nostalgia without pretense. Whether it’s the satisfying warmth of a cheese omelette or the familiar embrace of a grilled cheese sandwich, each dish feels thoughtfully prepared to nourish both body and spirit. The supporting cast of sides, from crisp home fries to hand-cut onion rings, completes the experience without ever overwhelming it.
What really sets Sunflower apart, though, is its people. The friendly, attentive service creates a genuine connection that many visitors return for time and again. It’s clear that this is a place where the staff know their regulars by name, where kindness is part of the recipe as much as any ingredient. These moments of warmth and welcome turn each visit into a small celebration of community and comfort.

Really enjoyed our breakfast there. The staff's very nice. We tried their soup, the cheese omelette and the grilled cheese sandwich both of which were tasty. It's a cozy spot, and is quite popular! Highly recommended!

Great place for breakfast! The staff are amazing. Close to Selkirk Provincial Park. It was so good that I went back for dessert. The ice cream puff was fabulous. I took a bite before the picture. Couldn't wait!

I don’t give 5 stars. However my emotions and full belly say 5 stars. Staff are amazing and Shae my waitress did a fabulous job. Thank you for my breakfast and coffee and ice cream thank you to all that worked today at the Sunflower. Food was delicious.

My husband and I biked by today. There is a sign that says all day breakfast so we thought we would try it. I'm so glad we did. When you walk in you get a friendly small town welcome. The waitress came over as soon as we sat down to welcome us. The restaurant is very clean. We both ordered the all day breakfast and it was delicious. The waitresses came around three times asking if we wanted a refill of coffee. If one waitress is busy' another one appears' making sure everything is okay. My husband and I have cycled all over Ontario and this hiden gem restaurant is one of the best we have come across. If your driving by'' don't let the exterior fool you. Inside awaits very friendly service with tasty food that doesnt break the bank To finish off' washrooms say a lot about a restaurant and the washroom was spotless. We will definitely return.

If you’re looking for a real review this is it. No matter how many bad reviews there are they don’t matter. My grandparents have been taking me since I was 1 we’ve gone here for over 12 years. Not once have we left still hungry or wanting to wait a few weeks before going back. Shay is usually who takes care of us and she is the kindest waitress you will ever meet. Prices are average and they give good portions of food. Don’t think twice this place deserves the attention it doesn’t get. It’s very peaceful, not on a busy road.

We hadn't planned on stopping in Selkirk, but when we saw so many people going in and out of the Sunflower Cafe we couldn't resist going inside. The staff and everyone else at the Cafe were incredibly friendly. The breakfast was amazing and the homefries are not like any other kind of homefries I've had before- they're light and crispy on the outside but fluffy inside and not greasy in the least. We tried peameal for the first time. The meal came with four thick hunks of dark rye toast, which tasted perfect with butter and marmalade. This place is a gem!

It was super quiet when we went in, we were the only customers. The server, I’m sorry I forget your name but you worked the morning of Saturday, November 16, was absolutely the sweetest and most attentive! And so was everyone else who worked there, as we met them during our stay. My boyfriend got the 2 eggs breakfast and everything was perfect. It sounds silly to say, because it’s a breakfast plate, but so often we get people messing it up. I had the peameal bacon and egg white sandwich with a side of bacon. Again, perfect in every way. Possibly the best home fries I’ve had. So seasoned and crispy, absolute perfection. If we’re ever back around Selkirk, we will definitely be back.

Delicious comfort food at a reasonable price. The extensive menu has something for everyone. Note they are closed on Sundays and Mondays and are often quite busy. Only a couple of tables have more than four seats, so if you have a larger group, prepare for a wait. When done with your meal, you have to go to the counter to pay.
